Price Sets Stadium Record in Hammer at Texas Relays
Austin, Texas -- Nebraska senior Melissa Price won the hammer throw at the Texas Relays on Thursday afternoon with an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 216-11, setting the Myers Stadium record. Price, who outdistanced her nearest competitor by more than 25 feet, broke her own school and Big 12 conference record with the toss.
The nation's leader in the event this season, Price is nearing the collegiate record of 220-1, set by Brigham Young's Amy Palmer in 1998. Price, who won the Stanford Invitational last weekend with a mark of 213-7, owns a personal-best mark of 217-4, recorded at the USA Track and Field Championships last summer - following the collegiate season.
Texas-El Paso senior Anne Gremillet finished second in the hammer at the Texas Relays on Thursday with a mark of 190-7, while UTEP freshman Kaisa Kintonen finished third with a toss of 188-11.
Nebraska sophomore Amanda Moreley placed 12th with a mark of 168-11. Moreley recorded a personal-best toss of 189-0 at the Stanford Invitational last weekend.
Several Huskers are slated to compete at the Texas Relays on Friday, including sophomore Carl Myerscough in the discus. Myerscough set the school record in the event at the Nebraska Wesleyan Open last weekend with an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 203-11
