Phoenix, Ariz. -- The No. 12 Nebraska softball team had a successful opening day Friday at the Fiesta Bowl/ASU Tournament, upsetting No. 10 Cal State-Fullerton, 3-2, before defeating UNLV, 1-0, at the Rose Mofford Softball Complex.

Sophomore Peaches James (1-0) was the winning pitcher against Cal State-Fullerton (2-2), allowing six hits and two runs while striking out nine in seven innings of work. James was also the hero offensively for NU (2-0), driving in the game-winning run in the bottom of the fifth with a two-out single to center field.

Walker (1-0) picked up the win against UNLV (2-2), tossing a two-hit shutout while striking out 13 and yielding just two walks. Sophomore Nicole Trimboli was responsible for NU
