Nebraska Extends Streak to 13 with 11th Inning Win over Missouri
Columbia, Mo. - Husker freshman Peaches James smacked a bases-loaded double in the top of the 11th inning and Leigh Ann Walker threw a career-best 17 strikeouts to lead the No. 18 Nebraska softball team to a 4-1 win over Missouri Saturday afternoon at University Field. With the Big-12 Conference opening-victory, the Huskers improved to 23-9 overall and 1-0 in the league while lengthening their streak of consecutive wins to 13.
The Huskers started the inning with Jamie Fuente on second per the international tiebreaker rule. Freshman leftfielder Nicole Trimboli laced a single to center, advancing Fuente to third. Then, MU pitcher Stephanie Falk hit NU shortstop Amanda Buchholz to load the bases. Danelle Arnold flew out to center, and Cindy Roethemeyer struck out. With two outs and the bases loaded, NU Coach Rhonda Revelle brought in James to pinch hit for Lori Tschannen in the ninth spot.
