Lincoln -- The Nebraska baseball team (32-15) relied on many heroes in two wins over Southern Illinois (24-25), 10-5 and 4-3, to stop of a four-game losing streak in front of 877 fans at Buck Beltzer Stadium on Saturday.

In game one, national player-of-the-year candidate Ken Harvey had four hits, a walk and drove in four runs and John Cole hit a grand slam in the bottom of the eighth to lead the offensive attack. Senior lefty Jay Sirianni (5-3) was an emergency starter to replace Shane Komine and pitched seven solid innings, striking out a career-best 10 batters while walking none in a 10-5 NU win.

In the night cap, Jeff Hedman was 2-of-2 with a solo home run and walked twice, Brandt Vlieger doubled and tripled and Cole scored two runs to go along with two hits. On the mound, Chad Wiles pitched six innings allowing three runs and striking out four. Brandon Penas retired seven of eight batters he faced in relief before leaving in the ninth. Sophomore left-hander Brian Rodaway picked up his first career save by getting Joe Meeks on a comebacker with runners at second and third and two outs on the game
