Latham Leads Huskers to 4-0 Victory over Colorado

By NU Athletic Communications

Lincoln - Sophomore Christine Latham had a goal and a pair of assists in the first half, as the fourth-ranked Nebraska soccer team improved to 16-1 on the season with a 4-0 victory over Colorado in front of 1,440 fans at the Abbott Sports Complex Friday.

The Huskers (7-1 in the Big 12) blitzed the Buffaloes (6-10 overall, 2-6), out-shooting CU, 18-1, before intermission, as Nebraska entered the break with a 4-0 lead. With the victory, the Huskers improved to 5-0 all time against Colorado, scoring four or more goals in four of the five meetings.

The Huskers started quickly, recording a pair of goals within two minutes midway through the first half.

After controlling the play in the early stages of the match, Latham notched her 17th goal of the season off assists from Kori Saunders and Breanna Boyd at the 19:59 mark. Rheem sent a ball into the Colorado box where Saunders and Boyd both headed the ball to Latham, whose conference-leading tally put her in a three-way tie for fifth place on NU single-season scoring charts. The Huskers upped the lead just moments later as sophomore Shannon Tanaka took a beautiful pass from Latham that she rifled past Colorado goalkeeper Whitney Peterson for her third goal of the year, 21:24 into the contest.

Nebraska, which lost its first home conference game in school history last Sunday against Oklahoma, took a 3-0 advantage 36:22 into the match on Lindsey Greenwood
