Huskers Upset Florida State, 3-0
Tallahassee, Fla. -- Husker pitcher Leigh Ann Walker threw a complete game two-hitter to lead the No. 18 Nebraska softball team to victory against No. 16 Florida State Wednesday night at the Seminole Softball Complex. The junior All-American, who posted 26 strikeouts in 18 innings of work last weekend, struck out nine FSU players and allowed just two walks in improving to 7-4 on the season and 2-0 all-time against FSU. Previously, Walker struck out 15 Seminoles in a 1-0 NU win at the 1999 NFCA Leadoff Classic.
Nebraska, which improved to 16-9 on the season, has won six straight. Florida State dropped to 24-5.
The Huskers did all of their damage offensively in the third inning off Florida State starter Leslie Malerich (10-2). Junior Cindy Roethemeyer hit a one-out single to the right side, and junior Leigh Suhr smacked a single to left field to advance Roethemeyer to third. After Suhr stole second, sophomore Kim Ogee knocked a two-run double to left center and then scored on Amber Burgess
