Oklahoma City, Okla. -- Nebraska downed No. 1 Texas A&M, 8-7, Saturday afternoon in Oklahoma City to advance to Sunday's Big 12 Tournament Championship game. The Huskers (40-16) used a six-run third inning and held off Texas A&M, the regular-season Big 12 Champion, to advance to their first tournament final since 1981.

Nebraska, which has won seven straight and 10 of its last 11, will take on the winner of this afternoon's game between Baylor and Missouri on Sunday at 1 p.m. If Missouri wins the first game this afternoon, the Tigers will take on the Bears at 7 p.m.

The Huskers will be making their first conference finals appearance since 1981 and the fourth in school history. NU made three straight finals appearances from 1979-81, losing all three contests.

Trailing 8-5, the Aggies (46-14) scored a pair of runs on a two-run single by Scott Scarborough to close within 8-7. Komime, who pitched 2 1/3 innings in NU's win over Oklahoma on Thursday, struck out Chad Hudson with the tying run on third to pick up his second save of the season.

Texas A&M, the Big 12 regular-season champion, jumped out to a 3-0 lead on Jay Sirianni after a Daylan Holt RBI sacriface fly in the first and a two-run homer by Steve Scarborough, who went 3-for-3 with 4 RBI.

Nebraska, which had won only won one of 10 previous games against A&M, struck for six runs of Khalid Ballouli, who picked up the loss to drop to 6-2 on the season. Three consecutive singles loaded the based before Adam Shabala's walk cut the A&M lead to 3-1. All-American Ken Harvey, who had been 2-for-9 in the entering today's game, singled to right, scoring a pair of runs to tied the score at 3-all. Two batters later, Jim Bailey singled home a pair of runs with a single to center before Brandt Vlieger's sacrifice fly ended the outburst to give NU a 6-3 lead.

A&M scored single runs in both the fifth and six innings, using a homer by Erik Sobek in the fifth. In the sixth Steven Truitt walked, moved to third on a single by Sean Meaney. Daylan Holt walked to load the bases. Dell Lindsey fouled out before John Schescjuk's ground ball scored Sobek to cut the Husker lead to 6-5.

The Huskers extended the lead to 7-5 on a homer to center by Harvey, who went 2-for-5 with 3 RBI on the day. In the eighth, Jim Bailey walked before pinch runner John Cole stole second and scored on Will Bolt's grounded which went through the legs of A&M second baseman Sean Meaney.

While the Huskers offense added runs, R.D. Spiehs came in and held A&M at bay, keeping the Aggies off the scoreboard until the ninth. Spiehs went 4 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on nine hits to improve to 4-1 on the year. Spiehs held the Aggies to 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position.
