By NU Athletic Communications

Manhattan, Kan. - Dan Alexander rushed for 130 yards and two scores, but it was not enough as No. 11 Kansas State defeated fourth-ranked Nebraska, 29-28, at KSU Stadium Saturday evening.

With the win, the Wildcats improve to 9-2 on the season and can clinch the North Division title with a win over Missouri next week, while the Huskers, who could have clinched the division title and a berth into the Big 12 Championship game on Dec. 2, fall to 8-2 overall and 5-2 in the Big 12.

The Huskers need a Missouri win over KSU and a victory over Colorado on Nov. 24 to ensure a trip to Kansas City.

Alexander, who topped the 100-yard mark for the seventh time this season, finished with 130 yards on 18 carries, scoring on runs of 19 and 45 yards in the fourth quarter to give the Huskers a 28-23 lead with 9:53 remaining. Alexander rushed for 103 of his 130 yards in the fourth quarter and became the first Husker to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark since 1997. A Doak Walker Award semifinalist, he has 1,056 yards and eight touchdowns on the season.

The Wildcats regained the lead with 2:52 remaining as quarterback Jonathan Beasley connected with Quincy Morgan with a 12-yard scoring pass to give KSU a 29-28 lead. Morgan finished with 199 yards on seven receptions and a pair of scores. His 199 yards were the fifth-highest receiving total ever by a Husker opponent. Beasley was just 12-of-36 with for 234 yards and an interception along with his two scores to Morgan.

"First, we need to congratulate Kansas State," Nebraska Coach Frank Solich said. "They played well. I am proud of our players and they way they fought back in the second half."

Nebraska jumped to an early 7-0 lead, as sophomore Aaron Terpening blocked a Travis Brown punt, and Keyuo Craver returned the ball 12 yards for the first score just 2:05 into the contest. The blocked punt was the Husker fourth blocked kick this season and the second blocked punt returned for a score by Craver.

The Wildcats tied the score at seven on a Josh Scoby 1-yard touchdown run to cap a five-play, 48-yard drive set up by a Beasley 41-yard pass to Morgan to the NU 7-yard line.

The Huskers regained the lead at 14-7 on an Eric Crouch one-yard touchdown run, as the Huskers marched 56-yards on 12 plays, set up by a Crouch completion to Davison for 23 yards on 3-and-10 down to the KSU 1.

Crouch was held in check, accounting for 82 yards of total offense and was just 2-of-13 through the air.

Jamie Rheem's 38-yard field goal trimmed the Husker lead to 14-10 before Beasley and Morgan hooked up for a 49-yard touchdown with 1:17 remaining in the half to give the Wildcats a 17-14 halftime lead.

Kansas State extended the lead to 23-14 after a pair of field goals by place-kicker Jamie Rheem in the first six minutes of the third quarter. Rheem connected on all three of his field goal attempts for the game.

The Huskers finally began to move the ball on the ground late in the third quarter and continued their success early in the fourth quarter. Alexander, who gained just 27 yards in the first three quarters, closed the KSU lead to 23-21 on a 19-yard touchdown run with 14:02 remaining.

After the Husker defense forced a three-and-out, Alexander accounted for all 74 yards on Nebraska's next drive, capped by a 45-yard run that put the Huskers ahead 28-23 with 9:53 remaining.
