Lincoln -- Junior first baseman Ken Harvey hit his 22nd home run of the season to break the school record for homers in a season as the Nebraska baseball team beat Kansas State 12-4 on Saturday afternoon in front of a crowd of 1,273 at Buck Beltzer Stadium.
Harvey eclipsed the previous record of 21 set by Bobby Benjamin in 1988 when he launched a 1-0 pitch from Brett Reid onto Avery Avenue behind the left-field fence in the third inning. The hit gave the Huskers a 3-1 lead and they never looked back scoring eight unanswered runs after trailing 1-0 on a homer by Reid in the top of the first.
