Nebraska Soccer Ranked 10th in NSCAA/adidas Preseason Poll - Huskers.com - Nebraska Athletics Official Web Site

The University of Nebraska is ranked 10th among NCAA Division I teams in the NSCAA/adidas preseason poll released Wednesday.  Nebraska was tied at 10th with the University of Texas, while Santa Clara topped the rankings.

 

The Huskers face five ranked teams during the 2002 season, including No.2 North Carolina, No. 4 Portland, No. 5 Texas A&M, No. 10 Texas, and No. 13 Florida.

 

Finishing the 2001 season ranked 12th in the country, the Huskers made it to the Sweet 16 in the 2001 NCAA Tournament and finished 17-5-1 on the season.

 

Nebraska returns six starters in 2002, including two-time All-American and two-time Big 12 Player-of-the Year Christine Latham.  The Huskers lost All-American Meghan Anderson after 2001, when she completed her eligibility and was drafted by the Carolina Courage in the third round of the WUSA Draft.

 

Latham is joined by three fellow seniors, two-time first-team All-Big 12 member Breanna Boyd, two-time second-team All-Big 12 member,Kori Saunders, and Leah Lamale.  Seven freshmen will also be added to the mix in 2002.

 

The Huskers are currently in London on a training trip where they are taking in four preseason games.  Nebraska defeated Millwall FC, 5-1, and lost to Arsenal, 1-0.
