Huskers Take Big 12 Lead with 11-4 win over Texas
Lincoln, Neb.. -- The 30th-ranked Nebraska baseball team jumped into first place in the Big 12 Conference with an 11-4 win over No. 9 Texas in front of 2,131 fans, the 10th-largest crowd in Buck Beltzer Stadium history on Friday night.
The Huskers (18-6 overall and 6-1 in the Big 12 Conference) came back from a 2-0 deficit following the first inning to hand the Longhorns (22-9 and 8-2) their worst loss of the season. Nebraska has won nine straight and in the last 10 games, the Huskers have scored more than 10 runs in each contest.
Junior left-hander Scott Fries threw his second complete game of the 1999 season to earn the win. Fries (5-1) threw 115 pitches and struck out three. After giving up a two-run homer to Jason Moore in the top of the first, he settled down to retire 19 straight batters before allowing a solo home run to Sam Anderson in the seventh.
