Nebraska Wide Receiver Malachi Coleman Pre-Maryland Press Conference

On the transition from high school to now
“Honestly it’s learning the playbook because obviously it’s a very large playbook compared to high school and physicality. Everybody’s a lot bigger, a lot stronger, a lot faster and they know football, so you have to work around those things.”

On how much better he’s gotten in the last month
“In the last month, I’d say my biggest thing is blocking, being able to set the edge. That’s something Coach (Garret) McGuire emphasizes a lot and if you can set the edge for the running backs, they actually have room to run and the quarterback has room to run. You can open up the passing game a lot too.”

On setting the edge in high school
“It was one of my favorite things. When you can take grown men somewhere he doesn’t want to go against your will, that’s fun to me.”

On a catch at Michigan State
“I should have checked behind me because I thought I was gone once I saw the safety come across, I cut inside and I thought I was going to have that but we have to find a way to break that tackle and make that play.”

On Jaylen Lloyd and Jaidyn Doss
“It’s been really fun, I’m not going to lie. Those are my guys, I’m with them every single day, hanging out, it’s either we’re in football or we’re talking about football, that’s pretty much what our lives circle around and I love that. We’re going through the growing pains together. We’re having our successes together. There’s no other brothers I would want to do that with.”

On Elliott Brown’s work on the sidelines
“We couldn’t do it without him. Doing what he does as a player is almost unheard of. To be able to it especially on a high level as he does too. We appreciate Elliott and we hope he gets better with what he’s doing too but we actually love him for that.”
