Nebraska Tight End Luke Lindenmeyer Pre-Akron Quotes
On the game against Cincinnati and his role
“It was a great game. It was fun being in Arrowhead and playing in front of Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. In Arrowhead, it was super loud. It’s kind of the role I knew I was going to be in. I got ready for it in the spring and all the training and the reps I had in the spring and the summer made me prepared for game one.”
On Coach Holgorsen’s messages and confidence
“It’s still routine plays and making guys miss. We just need to keep doing what we do and lock in on the fundamentals. Plays are going to hit, we just need to execute them. I have a lot of confidence. This is my eighth year playing tight end. I’ve seen a lot of things. I’ve seen a lot of movement from defenses. I remember two years ago playing as a blocker, playing with my head down because I missed a blitz and Coach Rhule on the sideline was yelling at me. In my head I was like, ‘I’m never going to be the reason that a coach is getting mad again’, and just focusing on my preparation. Preparation is what builds confidence. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are our physical days and what I do on Tuesday and Wednesday is what is going to show up in the game on Saturday. Just locking in on my preparation every week.”
On becoming a starter after being a walk-on
“It’s pretty cool. I really felt like a walk-on my first two years. But, I really didn’t because of all the love Nebraska has. I knew once I came here whether I never played or once I became the starter, I wanted to finish my career here. The love that Nebraska has, the great fans, the great people here. Even today, I’m getting a bunch of texts saying ‘happy birthday’ from a bunch of people I don’t even know. That’s just the kind of love Nebraska has. That’s why I’m going to stay here and finish my career here. They took a chance on me so I’m going to give them my all.”
