On preparing for Michigan
“Having that quarterback preparation mindset has helped a lot. You look at things globally and there are different things you can detail in on. This time around I’ll be focusing more on how the defensive ends play and how the linebackers are. I’m not too worried about the corners or the safeties. I’ll still have a good grasp of what kind of coverages they’re going to play and what the fronts are going to be and different stuff like that, but I think just globally looking at it it helps a lot to have a quarterback mindset.”
On the tushpush
“It didn’t go the way that we wanted it to against Akron and we didn’t really have an opportunity for it last week, but I think it’s something that will come into play this game or later into the season. I think it’s a play that you can’t just expect to line up and run without practice. You saw Akron, they were eight guys inside of three guys almost and there were guys flying over the top, so you kind of have to fine tune that a little bit, but I think that can be a deadly play on those short yardage situations.”
On being brought into the tushpush
“I think last year when we were at USC I think we were backed up on the one yard line right before half time and we just wanted to get out of that situation. I don’t know if coach Holgerson exactly knew what sandy was but they said Heinrich go in and run sandy, or tush push. I went in there and we got three yards so from that point on coach Holgerson was like this is awesome; Heinrich can get three yards a pop on sandy. I think that was just a continuation from last year. We didn’t really work on it a whole lot in the spring, but I still continue to get snaps with Justin. It’s not the easiest thing in the world to get under center snaps, especially when Justin has three guys lined up on his face.”
