On describing the Iowa rivalry
“For me even growing up it was hard for me to picture Iowa as this big rivalry game. You watch Michigan versus Ohio State and Alabama versus Auburn and it just doesn’t quite have that feel, but there is something a little different there. There isn’t quite as much history as some of those games. Nebraska and Iowa guys see each other a lot at camps. I was on visits with a lot of guys who went to Iowa and I just think we’re always just trying to compete between the two states for who’s the toughest, who’s the hardest working and I think this game really signifies that. There is no better play style than what we bring to the table every year to signify that.”

On last year’s game contributing to the rivalry
“I think every year it’s on the field, but it’s also off the field antics. I think there is always a little bit of ‘you remember that’, and in 2023 and even the year before I got here in 2020 they were waving us off and they were making fun of us in their presser and with all those things I wasn’t here for that, but those seniors in 2021 didn’t forget about that and they passed a little bit of that down to me. I’m sure Iowa probably has some things over the years that we’ve done, and all those things start to add up a little over time and it just puts a little extra emphasis on this game.”
