Nebraska Running Back Emmett Johnson Pre-Wisconsin Press Conference

On hitting his stride this season
“I wouldn’t say I got more and more confident because I’ve been confident in myself the whole time but more reps, you learn from things and you see a lot of things. I feel like I’ve been playing a lot based off these past couple games and grown as a running back”

On what he’s learned in the past month
“Knowing that I can get the ball multiple times and just be in mode. I’ve been learning stuff about the defense before coming into the game and watching that film, learning about my opponent. I’ve been spending extra time with Coach E.J. (Barthel), just going through things I have to do to be a great running back and trying to be more explosive and help the team put up points.”

On Rahmir Johnson and Gabe Ervin Jr.
“Ever since I got here, Rahmir, he’s been like a brother to me and he’s helped me out a lot. So I’ve learned a lot from those guys and even watching them play last year and everything and just watching the game I learned a lot from those guys and I love all those dudes, we still stay in contact, we still talk a lot. As a running back, we all try to get better even when we’re not playing. When I wasn’t playing, I was trying to help them. When they’re injured and can’t play, they’re going to try to help me so that just shows the bond we have in the running back room.”

On how things have changed now that he’s the main player in the backfield
“I wouldn’t say things have changed. I’ve always been confident. I’ve just kept my faith in God and now that I’m out here making these plays, it’s not anything different than what I do in practice. I feel like I have to keep striving as a running back. I feel like I do a lot of things better and I’m just going into film watching and learning, my mistakes, trying to be the best running back I can be.”
