Nebraska Quarterback Heinrich Haarberg Pre-Maryland Press Conference

On trends he’s seen in opponents
“Purdue, it was the safety bringing him down. When they do that that opens up stuff for Jaylen Lloyd and Malachi Coleman to run over the top. Michigan State was different, they gave us a couple different looks a lot of the time on our zone reads the end was coming so far up the field. I couldn’t really pull it. They’re forcing me to hand the ball off on some of those. Some of the pitch games they’re taking back and then I have to start up, then they have maybe a couple guys there for me. I’m going to continue to work on attacking those guys, making them take me so I can pitch the ball and when they do make me run I’ll get vertical. I’ll try and get five, seven yards.”

On the toughness Coach Rhule has asked of him
“I think he wants the Northern Illinois, Louisiana Tech Heinrich to come back out. There’s certain times where I need to be able to do that and I think these last couple games I’ve been trying to make too much happen on some of my runs. Some of the design runs, stopping my feet, trying to get back inside stuff like that when I should just put the ball in five point contact, dive for five yards. I think that’s what he is talking about. That’s something I want to get in the right mindset for this week.”

On how his relationship with Coach Rhule and Coach Satterfield has evolved this season
“Coach Rhule it’s weird as a first year, especially when I’ve been here. He didn’t recruit me, he met my family for the first time a couple weeks ago, he didn’t know what kind of environment I grew up in, how I handled things and he’s seen how I handled it. He’s just kind of ran with it and as we finish out this year, going into next year he’s getting to know me better and I’m getting to know him better too. How he treats me, some weeks he’s been on me really hard and other weeks he’s kind of backed off, just let me do my own thing. I think it’s a good balance of both.”

On weekly preparation and attempting to not overthink
“I think it’d be more during the game. I don’t think you can ever prepare too much leading up it. I think there are times where you’re just like ‘the play is this, you need to do this, don’t think x,y and z. Just look at this.’ That’s something I think is more once I get in the game, calming myself down, reminding myself what your read is and not trying to do everything else. Just do your job.”
