On Maryland’s defensive front seven
“They’re explosive and athletic. I think they look great and look the part. Their guys are well coached. They play hard and they play with intensity. They’re very athletic. This will, once again, be a tremendous challenge for us to continue to improve. There are times in the game last week we improved and there are times in the game last week we did not improve; we all saw that. This is another opportunity to go out there and get better. It’s Big Ten football that is going to be challenging every week and we know that and realize that. Last week was challenging and I was proud of how we worked ourselves out of some things to finish the way that we finished. We talk about one score games all the time and that one wasn’t. We have to travel and go up there and play an opponent on their field; a good opponent on their field. I’m sure they’re motivated with how that fourth quarter went for them last week. We will prepare and expect their best.”

On 19 yards in a 25 play stretch
“It is tough. Ironically enough the last time I experienced that was 2013 at Maryland. I hadn’t been through a two quarter stretch like that and that was tough. There is a lot that went into it and I could give you a bunch of excuses, but at the end of the day it's just about executing, execution, executing, and we didn’t do that every play that we called. There is an explanation for what went wrong on every play. Whether it was one guy, or a bad call, or somebody got whipped, or somebody busted an assignment, or whatever it was, you can pinpoint what went wrong on every single play and that’s our jobs as coaches. It was challenging. We just had so much momentum. That first drive we three and outed them and that first drive was an outstanding drive. We actually converted three third downs on that drive. They gave us credit for two because we took the penalty, but like had got the first down on that so we converted three first downs then punched it in when we’re in the low red zone. We were excited to see that. Then we sat there on the sidelines for 30 minutes. We had gotten more momentum which was awesome. The crowd was into it and we were feeling it. Then the next time we went out there 30 minutes later was after an explosive play by Jacory (Barney Jr.). The one thing that saved us in the second quarter was our field position was as good as it possibly could be with the punt return and a couple of turnovers and all that. We had just outstanding field position. Now, the problem is, offensively we went backwards. That helped save field position. It didn’t give them great field position. Credit to our defense, who I thought played outstanding, and credit to our special teams, which played outstanding and gave us really good field position, but we just sucked and it didn’t kill the team because of field position. Typically when you have something like that, and it happened two times, you have a game changing play, you usually go out there and attack. I called two plays to score. We had Dane (Key) running wide open for a touchdown and we had Jacory running wide open for a touchdown. We had an MA at left tackle and an MA at running back which caused sacks which caused sacks. We were going backwards. It just seemed like everything we were doing was going backwards. In the third quarter we got it to a third and one and then Justin (Evans), who was our player of the game, he played amazing but he got a 15 yard penalty that forced third and 16. There were just too many long yardage third downs that killed drives for two quarters. It was dyer. Both those quarters were into the wind and it’s not that last time we’re going to face winds, it’s not the last time we’re going to face weather, and it’s not the last time we’re going to face adversity. When that happens it snowballs and when it snowballs you just have to have a spark to get out of it and Dylan (Raiola) just gave us that spark. Right there towards the end of the third quarter it didn’t look like the wind affected that pass, but Jacory believed because the inside receiver didn’t clear it the was he was supposed and Dylan found him. That changed the whole sideline. I haven’t been here for the last 10 or 12 years so I don’t care about what it’s been like, but you could sense that on the sidelines. We made a play that sparked us and we played great the rest of the game. Kudos to our coaches for not losing their minds, and kudos to our players for just hanging in there, hanging in there, hanging in there, and then obviously our quarterback and Jacory sparked us and we played good the rest of the way and won by 11.”

On Dylan Raiola’s composure
“You know, there is a lot on a starting quarterback. There is a lot on a starting quarterback. I am just going to talk about that position because I think Dylan does an outstanding job at virtually everything when it comes to being a student athlete here, obviously starting quarterback, team captain, legacy, and all the rest of it. There was just a lot going on. He was getting knocked around, bad snaps, missed assignments. You’re going into the wind for two quarters which ended up biting them in the tail. It was strategic on their part but ended up biting them. Once Emmett (Johnson) scored that touchdown I was like the game's over. It was a tied game but like the game was over. We all knew it was over. You have the pressure of the crowd and the pressure of him wanting to be great so there is a lot on his head and when he is getting the crap knocked out of him you’re going to get loopy. He was loopy and didn’t play the way he knows, and we all know that he can play. I’m just proud of him for snapping out of it. He got hit again and the very next play he threw that pass. He needs to continue to handle it professionally and I know he will, but there is just a lot on that position and when it starts snowballing like that and you’re the one getting the crap knocked out of you it’s tough. Good for him for just hanging in there and making the play and getting us the win.”
