Nebraska Linebacker MJ Sherman Pre-Illinois Press Conference

On the full practice on Sunday
“That’s something we needed to do, in the sense that we didn’t play our best football on Saturday. We decided that we have to make up for that lost day. Our motto is ‘every day, 1% better.’ We don’t care about wins, we don’t care about losses, all we do is care about the tape. The tape didn’t look the part, so we had to make up for it.”

On the mentality going into a short week
“That we have to be ready on Friday. That’s the only mentality we’ve got. Nothing’s changed, the process doesn’t change. One percent better every day, that we have to be ready for Friday. Make sure the tape is good.”

On what he brings as a veteran player
“I’ve just got to do my job and do my part and make sure I do my job, my part, well. We all hold ourselves accountable, we all hold each other accountable. As long as I do my job and my part well and execute my assignments, everything flows well. We all feed off of each other. If I end up making a big play, we’re going to feed off of it. If Ty Robinson makes a good play, I’m going to feed off of it, so on and so on. We all feed off of each other. That’s it.”

On what the defense takes from the performance on Saturday
“I’m going to give you a quote that I just learned today – ‘Why do we fall?’ Do you know the answer to that? ‘So we can learn to pick ourselves back up.’ That’s all. We’re going to have tough losses, we’re going to have ugly tapes. If we don’t learn from it, it’s not useful. We just have to learn from it, use it to the best of our advantage, make sure we do it correctly. So we go on to the next. It’s only the sixth week. There’s plenty more games left and plenty more season left. We can still do something.”
