Opening Statement
“It was a really bad loss on Friday night and there's not much else to say about it. 7-6 at half and we got outplayed in the second half. It starts with me. I preach ownership and I did not have the team prepared to be the more physical team. Credit to Minnesota, they were the more physical team, and they made the plays you have to make to win the game. I have a lot of respect for that. Fortunately for us, we have another opportunity this week versus a really hot Northwestern team that plays very much the same way. They have excellent defense, can really run the football, and have dynamic wide outs. We’ll have to show up much better than we did last Friday.”

On injury updates
“Rocco (Spindler) had surgery on Sunday, so it just comes down to pain tolerance. He is cleared to play this week so we’ll see if he’s able. (Vincent) Shavers played early in the game and just wasn’t able to continue so we’ll hopefully have him this week.”

On the offensive line
“Nine sacks is not good enough. I think three were on the running back. It’s just all around. The ball needs to get out faster, we have to protect better, backs have to step up and win the one on one, but if you’re an offensive linemen you can't give up nine sacks.”

On missed assignments on blocks
“The back got run over. He blitzed him, hit him in the face, and ran him over. You have to win the one on one. I’m not going to make any excuses for our team and it all falls back on me. It’s the first time since I’ve been here we didn’t get in the endzone. We had opportunities. We had guys open and we didn’t hit them. We had guys open and we didn’t have enough protection to get the ball to them. It’s just not good enough at all and that rests on my shoulders. If the players are who they say they are, which I believe they are, then that rests on their shoulders too. One of the last sacks was empty protection where the back has to get out and the back didn’t hear the protection so that was a miss assignment just of audibly hearing it. Our guys know what to do. We’re not fooled. They were blitzing the back and bringing the guy that has the back in man across; the same thing Iowa did last year and in Boston College we were flipping the protection into it so we didn’t play nearly good enough. We have all the tools to handle that and we just didn’t do it.”
