Nebraska Defensive Lineman Blaise Gunnerson Pre-Michigan Press Conference

On scouting Michigan
“They have a good run game. They have a good offensive line and good stout tight ends. I think the biggest thing is focusing on us, focusing on every rep in practice. Having great physical reps and getting to the ball with high effort. So, as long as we focus on us and do our job, strike and get off blocks, we’ll have a good day.”

On Tuesday and Wednesday practices
“I think it helps a lot. You know on Monday you have to do a great job of scouting the opponent and knowing what they do, knowing their tackle, and knowing their run game, knowing all the stuff so Tuesday you’re ready to go in the morning. We had a little walk through to get us ready to go and then it’s time to go. So, it’s a very physical practice. Offensive and defensive lines going at it, secondary guys flying down with running backs. It’s a fun practice to be a part of and I appreciate that Coach (Matt) Rhule understands how important physicality is for us in the Big Ten.”

On the improvement of the defense
“I’m not going to sit here and talk about players of that aspect. I think every challenge in itself will be a testament to who we are as a defense. So, I’m focused on this week and focusing on going 1-0, and we’re focused on every rep in practice.”

On the defense rotating often
“Coach (Terrance) TKnight (Knighton) does a great job. Coach White does a great job of just rotating us. I think it allows you to stay fresh in the game. I think it allows you to really get off the ball in a fourth quarter pass-rush situation that we’re going to be needed in. So, as we move along in Big Ten play it’s going to be very essential for us to have these young guys ready to go, especially in the film room helping out. They’ve been doing a great job effort wise especially with getting all the Xs and Os with some of these Big Ten offensive coordinators. They know what they’re doing. Understanding what they’re trying to do to us and then attacking, communicating with each other and then playing the play.”
