Nebraska Defensive Coordinator Tony White Pre-Purdue Press Conference
On the interception
“That’s 100% on me. The guys will tell you it’s on them and all that stuff, but that’s on me. They had a really good goal-line scheme. We didn't show them where they ran out to the line of scrimmage. They had the big body, and he was running in between 75 and 94, and we didn’t spot him so they didn’t cover him on the 4th and 2. It should’ve been our ball and then on the goal line, they ran up and they hid their wide receiver right up behind the center… good scheme by them. Did not show them (defense) all the tricks down there on the goal line. When that stuff happens, the first person to blame is myself for not showing them that stuff. It’s not how we are going to respond to those things because you put it on tape. Now you’re going to see that kind of thing so you’re going to be working on that kind of stuff.”
On having an extra day to prepare for Purdue
“You’re back up in here right away… you’re going to get schemed up a little bit here and there. Now it’s, what did they see? How did they see it? And how do we prevent stuff like that from happening again? You go back through your whole process. Did we work enough goal line passes last week? Maybe we didn’t, now we work on goal line passes even more. Third downs weren't coordinated enough, so now we are emphasizing this on third downs. You’re going back through and looking at the process and making sure you’re doing what you need to do to make sure the guys are in the positions to make plays.”
On Riley Van Poppel being factored into the lineup this week
“No. That’s one that is up to Coach (Rhule). If he approaches us to see where we are at with him. There’s some guys that are getting some valuable snaps. When you’re on the grass you’re a starter. It doesn’t matter, you’re putting it on tape. You’re trying to evaluate the rotation of guys who go in there so again, he hasn’t said anything on Van Pop. If he does, then we rock out with it.”
