Nebraska Defensive Back Quinton Newsome Pre-Purdue Press Conference

On defensive back Tamon Lynum
“You know it’s a great feeling. Me and Tamon go way back. We used to be roommates in my sophomore year and you know it’s great to see a guy like that get his chance and make the most of it. He comes to work everyday at practice. He’s all special teams and doing everything right so the coaches all really love him. He’s getting his chance.”

On young players getting an opportunity to showcase their talent
“Seeing the guys step up into that role like, James (Williams), he was on scout a couple weeks ago and he comes out on d-line with those guys and he makes plays for us when we need him to. See we look at it like we don’t really have ones, twos, or threes, we want the same tone to be set no matter who’s on the field.”

On Coach Rhule running the scout team defense during practice
“He’s always trying to be involved in what’s going on and trying to get those guys better over there and making sure the scout team is giving them a great look and giving them the opportunity to get better. Seeing him involved in that, you can see how committed Coach (Rhule) is. He can walk over to the scout team and be over there the whole time. It’s a good thing to see.”

On confidence growing from winning the past two games
“I would say that execution and flying around to the ball even when it’s a mistake, you know that there’s just so many guys running to the ball, sometimes you can’t even tell when you make a mistake. Like I said, no matter where the opposing team gets the ball, we’re going to stop them. We’re ready to step up to the challenge.”
