Nebraska Defensive Back Phalen Sanford Pre-Wisconsin Press Conference

On how he’s been doing overall
“Really well. I just want to help the team any way possible. At the beginning of the year that was special teams. We had some injuries and moved some guys around. Got a lot more playing time on defense. Some guys are coming back healthy now. We are pretty deep in the DB room right now. We can rotate certain guys and kind of send waves in.”

On how his experience on special teams prepared him
“A ton. I had always been in good shape in special teams because you always have to be ready. Usually when I was just playing special teams I was on the bike the whole game because I can’t get cold because you have to go and run a sixty yard sprint and then be on the sidelines for five minutes and then a sixty yard sprint back to back. Conditioning, the way we practice is really intense. Being in shape I don’t think was a problem at all.”

On being able to rotate guys in
“It’s huge. I think we have the capability to not sub. If we only had five DBs we could play the whole game no problem, but it really helps the following week. We are coming back to practice on Sunday, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The better you feel the more you can get out of practice. The more deliberate and intentional you can practice which in turn helps you every other Saturday.”
