Nebraska Defensive Back Malcolm Hartzog Pre-Michigan State Press Conference

On what it’s like to play defense right now
“It’s been fun playing with these guys that have been on the field. It starts at practice, trying to create a brotherhood on and off the field. Going out there, having fun, getting the sacks, the picks, everything is really fun for me and the guys to go out there and play.”

On watching Quinton Newsome recently
“It’s been fun watching him go out there and play because I know how much work he put in this offseason to come out there and show what he’s been working on. I feel like it’s not over for him. We’ve got four more games and I feel like he’s got a lot more to come.”

On where he thinks the defense can take a step forward
“I think we can take a step forward in taking away the ball. They put a strong emphasis on it in practice, so in practice we try to go out there and get it done. We have to translate it to the game and get turnovers.”

On who of the younger guys is standing out, that’s not getting snaps on the field yet
“I like all of our freshman DBs. Each and every one of them, I feel like they could go out there and play right now. They’re going to get a lot of playing time, I feel like, because they’ve been working hard the whole time. I feel like their chance is going to come.”
