Postgame Quotes vs. Northwestern (Oct. 21, 2023)
Nebraska 17, Northwestern 9

On the feeling of the touchdown pass to Malachi Coleman
“I knew we had to make a play after the first half. We’ve had a couple injuries. I knew young guys were gonna have to step up and I was more proud of Malachi (Coleman) than anything. He stepped up and you just have to find ways to get the ball in some of those young guys’ hands.”

On the overall challenges from today’s game
“I mean yeah that’s a good defense. Looking at it at the beginning of the week they only had one sophomore or younger guy in that lineup. Those older Big Ten defenses you know going into it that it’s going to be a tough day. Going to have to make good decisions. You know that first play was tough and some things didn’t fall our way but I think we did a good job extending some plays and making stuff happen. Converting third downs was a big one.”

On preparation of the touchdown pass play to Malachi Coleman
“I mean yeah we’ve had that one in there for awhile now and I’ve been just trying to work it especially with all the options we’ve been running and how hard Northwestern had been coming down trying to fit me and fit the running backs. We knew that guys as fast as Malachi (Coleman), if we could get everyone down, and we could put him one-on-one, he was probably going to win.”

On Ethan Piper’s impact on the offensive line
“Obviously he is a tremendous player. He is one of the oldest offensive lineman. More than anything I mean he is one of our offensive leaders. Seeing Piper go down along with Billy (Kemp IV) and some of the older guys that we had go down today, we had to find it within ourselves to kind of kickstart the offense. We really leaned on the defense a lot and as on offense we really need to step it up. Stop putting so much pressure on them and execute the plays.”
