On if he liked the 69-yard punt or fake punt more
“69 yard punt, just because of the situation. Now if Jaylen (Lloyd) would’ve scored, probably the pass. He told me he was going to score, but we’re going to have to get him to work on that.”
On Rutgers defense on fake punt
“When we faked it on them, we expected them to play less aggressively. I saw the two guys in the a-gap drop right before the snap so u felt like I had a split second longer to get it off and I was able to feel a little bit more calm.”
On having Brett Maher around
“He’s just got so much experience because he played in the NFL for so long. Just all these little situations, we’re just bouncing ideas off of each other. How we’re going to play the wind here, and other stuff like that. Before the last punt he came up to me and said, ‘there’s not too many times a punter has a chance to put a dagger in the game’, but he said he called the shot on that and jinxed it. He’s just an incredible tool for us, but that’s someone who we just need to continue to lean on because there's still a lot of improvement to be made in the special teams area.”
On the blocked punt
“I’ve had punts blocked before so I wouldn’t say I was shocked. I felt like I had a good operation time, so we’re going to have to look at the film and see how the guy came free. But I went over to the side and the trainers started working on me and I took a couple of swings. My back was hurting pretty good but honestly, I never thought about coming out. God has put me in this position to be able to play here and this is my senior year. Why on earth would I let a little back pain take me out. Who cares, go tough it out. And if I shank it five yards and it's obviously better for them to put in Kamdyn (Koch), then they can take me out that way. But I’m not just going to go out on my own terms. That would just not be the type of person I want to be for this team.”
