During his monthly radio program on Tuesday, December 13th, Nebraska Vice Chancellor/Director of Athletics Trev Alberts announced some upcoming changes to Memorial Stadium that will have an impact on the East Balcony (sections 101 -111). The East Balcony will be converted into club seating resulting in a decreased capacity of approximately 600 seats and the sections renumbered (201-211). This work will begin soon and is scheduled to be completed by the home opener against Northern Illinois on September 16, 2023.
Memorial Stadium is turning 100 this season, and the East Balcony is part of the original stadium construction. This area is scheduled for general maintenance as recommended by University of Nebraska structural engineers. Maintenance will include widening aisles, installation of handrails, waterproofing and structural concrete repairs.
“Last spring, we completed a comprehensive fan survey. One of the top takeaways was our fans’ desire for more comfortable seating. For this reason, the decision was made by our stadium modernization committee to replace the wooden benches with cushioned, chairback, club-style seats. This is similar to the seating project completed on the West Stadium Balcony in 1999.” Alberts said.
The donation levels required will mirror the donation levels on the West Stadium Balcony that have remained flat since 2010. These donation levels range from $1500 - $2500 per seat depending on the proximity to the 50-yard line.
“Many of the affected patrons are already contributing at a donation level that will allow them to remain in the East Balcony. For season ticket holders that may not be comfortable committing to these new donation requirements, our staff will work diligently to find comparable seats inside Memorial Stadium.”
Alberts also announced on December 13th that Nebraska season ticket holders will receive a one-year reduction in season ticket prices in 2023, part of the Athletic Department’s celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Memorial Stadium. Public season tickets for 2023 will cost $320 for seven home games, a $100 reduction from the 2022 season, and a 24 percent cost savings for Husker fans.
Current season ticket holders will receive renewal information for the 2023 season by e-mail before the end of the 2022 calendar year. Season ticket holders will once again have options for both three- and six-month payment plans. Husker fans interested in becoming new season ticket holders in 2023 are encouraged to visit Huskers.com/requestlist for more information.
