Nebraska Coach Fred Hoiberg:
On Keisei Tominaga’s injury
“We’ll know a lot more in the morning with Keisei, the ankle did swell up after he twisted it early in the first half. Hopefully he’ll recover quickly from it. Obviously, he’s a very important part of what we do, especially on the offensive end, and we need to get him back healthy. He does not have a history of sprained ankles, he’ll get a day off tomorrow and come in for multiple treatments, get him back in there Tuesday morning, and then hopefully he recovers well.”

On how much other injuries affected his game plan
“It gave us an opportunity to play a lot of different combinations, most of them very small. You know, you just gotta go out there and compete, which I thought our guys did. Second half we made some adjustments. I think we did a better job with our pressure, only gave them four points in the paint as opposed to 18 in the first half, and got a lot of deflections. I think our hand activity was really good. Sam (Hoiberg), I think, had seven deflections in the first five minutes of the game and that gave us some easy ones. Overall I thought our effort was really solid for 40 minutes.”

On what can be learned from some new lineup combinations
“We were gonna have that opportunity to see that smaller lineup at some point today, and we actually had that combination out there quite a bit against Utah when Josiah (Allick) tweaked his knee a little bit and I liked what I saw. I think we scored on seven out of nine possessions that we had out there. We didn’t defend great, but I thought our offense was pretty darn effective when we had five smaller, skilled guys on the court.”

On Jamarques Lawrence’s performance
“I thought his pace was really good, I thought his defensive pressure in the second half, it starts with him. You always know you’re gonna get a good effort on the defensive end. I thought Jamarques got the ball down the floor quickly. I told the guys that we want to play with great pace, but that doesn’t mean you have to shoot the ball the first time you touch it, and I thought we were better as the game went on with that, and it all starts with Jamarques. His pace has really been good for us all preseason long. That’s going to have to stay for the remaining games that we have.”

Sam Hoiberg and C.J. Wilcher:
Takeaways from the unorthodox lineups for the upcoming season
Hoiberg: “I mean, you saw Jamarques (Lawrence). He had 11 rebounds for example. We're gonna have to play bigger. Our backcourt is pretty small with guys like me and Keisei (Tominaga) so we gotta play bigger than our size and now that every team we play is gonna be bigger than our size with this lineup. It is gonna help us learn to be more physical with the big guys and rebound and really learn to play those positions if we need it. We've been here before with being down guys just like the end of last year. I think we don’t let it stop us when we have guys who are missing and we kinda figured it out in the second half and we played pretty well.”

On impression of Eli Rice
Wilcher: “Eli is really special. Even off the court he’s usually just to himself. He’s kinda like a pro honestly at such a young age. He’s just special, he’s gonna be really really good. There’s been growth from when he first got here. There are regular freshmen adjustments, and he still faces those sometimes, but the coaches have done a good job of not necessarily treating him like a freshman and holding him to the same standard they hold me to or Brice (Williams) to.”

Hoiberg: “He’s just a natural born scorer. He never plays without confidence. He led our team in scoring in Spain. He came in right away and hit two threes for us so we can always expect that from him.”

On where they feel they’ve grown and how they are preparing for the upcoming season
Hoiberg: “It's a 100 percent increase in confidence. Last year I didn't know if I was gonna be playing, and I didn’t at the start of the season. Kind of battling that in practice everyday. I was putting a ton of pressure on myself to play my best, and honestly I did not handle it very well in the offseason (before last season). I think that's why I wasn't playing. I was putting too much pressure and not doing well with that. But now coming in with that confidence of proving myself a little bit, I can play freely and not be nervous before games and just kind of do my thing.”
