Known as "Touchdown Tommy" during his playing days, Dr. Tom Heiser has been with the athletic department as an orthopedic surgeon since 1985. Heiser is the chairman of the Athletic Medicine and Performance Advisory Board.
A Columbus, Neb., native, Heiser lettered for the Huskers in 1974 and 1975. He earned academic All-America honors following the 1975 season.
He received his bachelor's degree in 1976, and his M.D. from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 1979. He and his wife, Nancy, have two children, Nicholas, 23, and Mark, 20.
