Bartz received his bachelor's degree in economics from Southern Methodist University, where he was a member of SMU's baseball team. After graduating from medical school at the University of Texas in 1994, Bartz completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, in 2002. While in residency, he received numerous awards including the Paul Harrington Research Award on two occasions, the Houston Orthopaedic Society Research Award, and the Herodicus Society Award.
Bartz continued his training at the world renowned Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colo., where he completed a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery. While in Vail, he served as a fellow in surgery of the knee under Dr. Richard Steadman and a fellow in surgery of the shoulder under Dr. Richard Hawkins. While participating in his fellowship, he provided team coverage for both the Denver Broncos and the Colorado Rockies.
Bartz utilizes the experience he gained as a collegiate pitcher to specialize in treatment of shoulder and elbow problems in throwers. His practice includes treatment of a wide gamut of sports medicine injuries of the knee and shoulder.
A native of Houston, Texas, Bartz and his wife, Kristie, are the parents of four children, Claire, Jay, Kassie and Samantha.
