Melissa Becking enters her first year as an assistant academic counselor in the Nebraska Athletic Department after being hired in August of 2007. Becking will assist with the men's and women's track and field, wrestling and volleyball programs with Nebraska's Academic Programs and Student Services unit.
In addition, she will also assist in coordinating Nebraska's Student-Athlete Academic Recognition Banquet.
Before coming to Nebraska, Becking was a graduate student at Kansas State in college student personnel work with an intercollegiate athletics emphasis. She is scheduled to complete her master's degree in May of 2008.
A native of Greeley, Colo., Becking competed in equestrian at Kansas State. She was named the team's outstanding senior in 2004 and earned Big 12 Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll recognition as a member of the team.
She earned her bachelor's degree in animal science and agricultural communications from KSU in 2005.
