After an All-American career at Nebraska, Matt Murray was the Huskers student assistant coach for the 2006-07 season, after serving as the club coach in the 2005-06 campaign. The Huskers went 22-12-1 in duals during Murray's two seasons on the Nebraska coaching staff, including a third-place finish at the 2006 Big 12 Championships and three All-Americans during that stretch.
Murray also had a storied career wrestling for the Huskers. He was a runner-up at 141 pounds at the 2004 NCAA Championships and was a two-time qualifier for nationals. The second-place finish at nationals capped a strong finish to his junior season, in which he won 11 of his last 13 matches. He followed that with a solid senior campaign, during which he finished 24-7 with a 15-2 dual record. Murray earned his second bid to nationals and was ranked among the top wrestlers at 141 pounds for much of the 2004-05 season.
The Colby, Kan., native was also accomplished in the classroom, as he was named a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American while working toward a degree in mathematics education.
