A two-time Big Eight champion and All-American at Nebraska, Frank Velazquez spent two seasons with the Huskers as a volunteer assistant coach from 1995-97. Velazquez helped coach Nebraska to 30-9-1 dual record in his two seasons as the Huskers fifth at the 1996 NCAA Championships. NU wrestlers claimed five All-America accolades during Valezquez's time in Lincoln.
During his career with the Huskers, Velazquez won back-to-back Big Eight championships at 134 pounds in 1994 and 1995. He became the first Husker to accomplish that feat since Johnnie Selmon in 1980 and 1981.
Velazquez posted a 5-2 record at the NCAA Championships to finish seventh and earn All-America honors during his junior season. He finished his two-year career at Nebraska with a 49-10 overall record, with his .830 winning percentage ranking sixth in Husker history.
A native of Wenatchee, Wash., Velazquez was a two-time junior college national champion at North Idaho Junior College. He earned a degree in education at Nebraska.
