Butch Hug serves as associate athletic director for events at Nebraska. He served as assistant athletic director for events from 2001 to 2009, after originally joining Nebraska's athletic staff in 1982.
Hug schedules all events for the NU athletic teams, as well as non-athletic events in athletic department facilities, and oversees the staffing and staging of each event from parking and traffic control to ushers.
Hug's full-time staff handles all events in Memorial Stadium, the Bob Devaney Sports Center and Haymarket Park, including Husker athletic events and five Nebraska state high school championships. Among the largest event staffs in the country, Hug oversees the scheduling of more than 800 event staffers and 50 full-time athletic department staff members for approximately 280 events per year.
Hug was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the University as the recipient of the 1999 Carl A. Donaldson Award for Excellence in Management. He has also earned service awards from the Nebraska Coaches Association and Nebraska School Activities Association, and is a Hall of Fame member of the Husker Track Officials Association, where he is a master-level official.
A member of the International Association of Venue Managers, and a member of the Stadium Managers Association, Hug has previously worked as an administrative assistant at the Bob Devaney Sports Center and as assistant ticket manager. He came to Nebraska after serving as activities director at Nebraska Wesleyan (1976-82) and assistant to the athletic director and baseball coach at Midland College (1971-76).
A U.S. Army veteran, Hug received his bachelor’s degree from Midland College in 1971 and a master’s degree in physical education and administration from Nebraska-Omaha in 1974. He is married to the former Caroline Max, and they have two sons, Corey and Casey. Casey and his wife, Kathy, have a daughter, Taylor.
