Former NCAA champion, Brad Penrith loaned his coaching talents to Nebraska for five seasons from 1992-1997. He was an assistant coach under Tim Neumann and helped guide the Huskers to a 69-20 dual record during his time in Lincoln. Penright coached 17 Huskers to All-America honors as the Nebraska had one of its best seasons ever in 1992-93. NU claimed the Big Eight team title before finishing third at the NCAA Championships. Penrith and the Huskers also won the Big Eight title in 1995.
Penrith joined the Nebraska staff after a one-year stint at Boise State University in 1991-92. Before his year at Boise State, Penrith served as an assistant at Arizona State for two years and as a graduate assistant at Iowa.
Penrith competed collegiately for Iowa, where he earned All-America honors three times, including a national championship at 126 pounds in 1986. Penrith placed second at 126 pounds in 1987 and 1988. Originally a walk-on, Penrith was also a three-time Big Ten champion for the Hawkeyes, including being named the Oustanding Wrestler of the 1986 Big Ten meet.
Penrith was also a standout performer for the United States at the international level, earning three World Cup medals. Among Penrith's international honors are a gold medal at the 1991 Pan American Games and a silver medal at the 1991 World Championships. Penrith was also an alternate for the 1992 U.S. Olympic team, and brought home his third national open title in 1993.
A native of Windsor, N.Y., Penrith was a four-time state medal-winner in high school, and was state champion as a sophomore in 1981. Penrith competed with fellow Husker assistant coach Mark Cody on the same sectional team in high school. Penrith is married to the former Laura Wood of Waukee, Iowa.
