Anne Shadle enters her first year as a volunteer assistant for the Huskers in 2009. Shadle was a cross country and track and field standout for the Huskers from 2001 to 2005. In cross country, Shadle earned all-region honors in 2003. She returned for her final season in 2004 to co-captain the team and earn her first All-Big 12 honor. Shadle excelled on the track, sweeping the 2005 indoor mile run and outdoor 1,500 meter national titles. She also won Big 12 Conference titles in the indoor 1,000 meters (2004), indoor mile (2005) and outdoor 1,500 meters (2005).
Following the 2005 outdoor season, Reebok offered Shadle a professional contract. In the fall of 2006, Shadle moved to Washington D.C. to join the “D.C. Elite” training group which included professional runners Alan Webb, Chris Lukezik, Sam Burley, Nikeya Green, Samia Akbar and Keira Carlstrom. The group was coached by former Olympians Juli Henner and Scott Racsko.
Following the 2008 Olympic Trials, and needing a break from training, Shadle felt the need to return to the University of Nebraska. She looks forward to giving back to the program that helped her realize many of her running goals. “I am excited to get back home to the program that shaped me and made me the runner I am today,” Shadle said. “I am looking forward to being a part of this very special and talented Nebraska team.”
