2011: Senior
Root played in nine matches as a senior, providing valuable depth at setter • Was one of two captains on the team • Made her first career start at setter again Michigan on Nov. 4 • Recorded the first double-double of her career against the Wolverines with 25 assists and 11 digs as she paced the Huskers in a gutsy comeback win • Recorded the start against Michigan State, while notching a career-high 34 assists and eight digs • Posted a career-best five kills on six attacks against Michigan • Was honored with an All-Big Ten Sportsmanship award and as an Academic All-Big Ten selection.

2010: Junior
Root did not play during the 2010 season •  Backed up two-time All-American Sydney Anderson and 2010 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year Lauren Cook at setter.

2009: Sophomore
Root was a backup to setters Sydney Anderson and Jessica Yanz and appeared in three matches as a serving specialist • Saw action in Nebraska’s NCAA Tournament opener against Coastal Carolina on Dec. 4 • Saw her most extensive action of the year against Louisiana-Lafayette on Sept. 4, playing in all three sets as a serving specialist • Made her Big 12 debut against Oklahoma on Sept. 30.
 
2008: Freshman
Root provided valuable depth for the Huskers, serving as the backup to All-American Sydney Anderson, while also seeing time as a serving specialist • Appeared in just one match, recording an ace in her collegiate debut against Oral Roberts on Sept. 1 • Keyed a 4-0 spurt in the finale that turned a 9-8 lead into a 13-8 advantage in a sweep of Oral Roberts.

High School
Root was one of the state’s top performers, competing for her dad, Bill, at Grand Island High School • Led GIHS to back-to-back Class A state runner-up finishes as a junior and senior • Collected second-team Super-State honors from the Lincoln Journal Star and second-team All-Nebraska honors from the Omaha World-Herald after totaling 1,174 assists, 214 digs and 49 service aces en route to a 29-6 record in 2007 • Earned first-team Class A honors from both papers and was a two-time Heartland Super Squad selection by the Grand Island Independent after leading Class A with 11.4 assists per set • Was a two-year starter at setter, earning third-team Super-State accolades as a junior after guiding the Islanders to a 31-3 record • Earned four letters apiece in both volleyball and tennis • Won the Nebraska state title at No. 2 singles as a senior • Equally as successful in the classroom, earning first-team academic All-America honors from Prepvolleyball.com - one of only eight high school seniors in the nation to win the award • Graduated first in her class of 443 and was a class officer and National Honor Society member • Selected NU over Creighton, Iowa State and Nebraska-Omaha • Has an athletic background, as her mother (Brenda Campbell) competed in gymnastics at Nebraska in 1981, while her father played tennis at Nebraska-Kearney.
