Senior (1998-99)
Ryan Nietfeldt competed in the season-opening Falcon-Cross Creek Invitational, but did not participate in a tournament for the rest of the fall. At the Falcon-Cross Creek Invitational, Nietfeldt tied for 88th. (77-80-73--230). Nietfeldt, who has found success in competition and in the classroom during his career as a Husker, will battle fellow teammates Dean Beste and Seth Porter for NU's fifth spot in the rotation in the spring. He looks to return to the form that guided him to the team's second-highest finish at the NCAA Championships last spring. During his career, Nietfeldt has competed for the Huskers in one national championship tournament, one NCAA regional tournament and two conference championships. In three and a half seasons, Nietfeldt has compiled a 76.5 stroke average.

Junior (1997-98)
In his first season back from reconstructive knee surgery, Nietfeldt started for Nebraska in all five fall tournaments and three of the eight spring contests, finishing with an overall stroke average of 75.9, a mark that ranked fifth on the team. He did not see action in the conference championships or the NCAA Central Regional tournament, but was the second-highest finisher on the team behind Steve Friesen at the NCAA Championships. Nietfeldt fired rounds of 73 and 70 to tie for 48th at 143. To start the spring season, Nietfeldt tied for eighth place at the UTSA Invitational (73-74--147). The top 10 finish tied his career-best eighth-place mark set at the 1996 Big Eight Championships, where he earned all-conference honors. Nietfeldt also competed for NU in the Louisiana Classics Invitational and the Diet Pepsi/Shocker Classic. Nietfeldt's fall season was marked by continued improvement. After finishing 79th at the Falcon-Cross Creek Invite (75-75-80--230), Nietfeldt's play culminated with a season-best tie for 31st at NU's final tournament -- the Red Raider Intercollegiate (74-73-72--219). At the Legends of Indiana Intercollegiate, Nietfeldt carded a 69, his lowest score of the season, en route to finishing 46th with a 221 (69-78-74--221). Nietfeldt also finished 46th at the Kansas Invitational (70-80-75--225). In addition, Nietfeldt earned academic All-Big 12 honors for the third straight season and was a GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-America nominee.

Sophomore (1995-96)
Nietfeldt earned first-team all-conference honors by placing eighth at the final Big Eight Championships in Hutchinson, Kan. The sophomore was NU's top finisher, carding rounds of 76, 77 and 72 to finish with 225 strokes. Nietfeldt used two top 10 finishes during the spring season as a springboard to the conference championships. He averaged 77.7 strokes per round while tying for seventh at the Tanglewood Invitational (75-77-70--222) and 10th at the Fripp Island Invitational (78-72-73--223). Nietfeldt played in four of NU's five fall tournaments, compiling a 75.5 average, and finished in the top 20 three times. Nietfeldt's best finish was at the Florida Atlantic/PGA Invite, where he tied for 11th at 229 (81-75-73). His best round was a three-under-par 69 at the Falcon-Cross Creek Invitational, where he placed 16th (75-69-75). Nietfeldt was named academic All-Big Eight for his work in the classroom.

Freshman (1994-95)
Nietfeldt finished with a 77.0 overall stroke average. In seven spring contests, Nietfeldt finished with a 77.3 average and had two top 20 finishes, including an eighth-place showing at the Waterwood Invitational (76-74-74--224). In the fall, he averaged 76.7 strokes per outing and posted a season-low score of 72 twice in nine rounds.

Personal
An accounting and finance major with a cumulative 3.480 GPA, Ryan is the son of Norm and Cheryl Nietfeldt. In high school, Nietfeldt won the 1993 and 1994 State Junior Stroke Play Championship and the 1993 Junior Match-Play Championship and also finished third in the state high school championships for Grand Island High School.
