Senior (2023-24)
Gentry Scheve (pronounced SHEEV) got his fourth season at Nebraska off to a strong start as NU's top finisher at the Visit Knoxville Collegiate (Sept. 8-10). The senior from Emporia, Kan., matched his career best with an opening-round 66 (-4) before tying another career best with his 208 (-2) three-round tournament total. Scheve, who tied for 12th overall in a strong 84-player field, added a final-round 69 (-1) after a second-round 73 (+3) on the par-70, 7,280-yard layout at the Tennessee National Golf Club in Louden.

Scheve's season-opening performance in Tennessee marked his third top-15 tournament finish over four consecutive events dating back to 2022-23, beginning with a career-best tie for fourth at the Tiger Collegiate when he established he shot his previous career-best round with a 66 (-6) and tournament total with a 208 (-8). He followed with a tie for 12th at the Fighting Illini Spring Collegiate.

He followed his stellar first tournament with a 224 (+11) at the Bearcat Invitational (Sept. 18-19). He was Nebraska's No. 5 finisher, settling for 71st with rounds of 76-73-75 on the par-71, 7,279-yard layout at the Coldstream Country Club in Cincinnati. 

Scheve owns a 72.00 stroke average over six fall rounds for the Huskers.

Scheve's strong finish to 2022-23 established him as one of Nebraska's Big Ten Golfers to Watch alongside Will Marshall and Harry Crockett heading into the 2023-24 campaign.

Junior (2022-23)
Scheve made a major move up the Nebraska lineup late in the spring and closed his third season as a Husker with the team’s No. 2 stroke average (73.35) over 14 rounds. His season stroke average and rounds played were both career bests.

Scheve, who earned lineup spots in each of Nebraska’s last four tournaments of the season, was NU’s top finisher at the Fighting Illini Spring Collegiate (April 22-23). He posted a career-best fourth-place individual finish with a 215 (69-72-74) on the par-71, 7,538-yard layout of the Atkins Golf Club. 

His effort in Illinois followed a career-best 208 (70-66-72) as Nebraska’s top finisher at the Tiger Collegiate (April 10-11). His tie for 12th included a career-best 66 (-6) in the second round on the par-72, 7,221-yard layout of the Club at Old Hawthorne. With Scheve leading the way in the second round, Nebraska posted the best team round in school history with a 274 (-14).

His spring lineup appearances began with a tie for 44th with a 219 (74-75-70) as NU’s No. 3 finisher at the Seahawk Intercollegiate in Wilmington, N.C. (March 26-27).

Scheve closed the season as Nebraska’s No. 3 finisher in a tie for 46th with a 154 (78-76) at the rain-shortened Big Ten Championship (April 28-29) in Galloway, N.J.

He made his lone lineup appearance of the fall at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque (Sept. 23-24). He finished with a 231 (73-77-81) to tie for 91st while playing out of the No. 1 spot in Nebraska’s lineup. 

Sophomore (2021-22)
Scheve opened his second season as one of the top players in Nebraska’s lineup at the Rod Myers Invitational in Durham, N.C. (Sept. 11-12). He closed with a three-round score of 227 (+11), including a then-career-best 71 (-1) in the opening round on the par-72, 7,154-yard layout of the Duke University Golf Course.

Scheve added his second lineup appearance at the Stitch Intercollegiate in Raleigh, N.C. (April 8-9). He tied for 69th individually and fourth among the Huskers with a 231 (74-75-82). Scheve earned the No. 3 finish for the Huskers at the Hawkeye Invitational (April 16-17) with a 227, including a 71 (-1) in the opening round.

For the 2021-22 season, he recorded a 76.11 stroke average over nine rounds.

Freshman (2020-21)
Scheve opened his collegiate career by competing for Nebraska in three of four team matches at the Big Ten Match Play Championship at the Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, Fla. (Feb. 5-6). He managed a 1-2 record.

Scheve made his stroke play debut by competing as an individual outside Nebraska’s lineup at the Git-R-Done Husker Invitational (April 17-18). He posted a 225 (74-73-78) to finish 36th in a 60-player field.

Before Nebraska
Scheve was a two-time Kansas 5A first-team all-state member for the Emporia Spartans. He finished in the top 12 at the state tournament in each of his first three seasons. 

After finishing 12th at state as a freshman, he took third in Salina as a sophomore in 2018. As a junior in 2019, Scheve tied for first with a then career-best 67 (-5) in Dodge City, but lost a playoff with Wichita Eisenhower’s Tyler Trudo.  

Scheve was the back-to-back Centennial League Player of the Year in 2018 and 2019, and ended his junior season with five individual and three runner-up finishes. His senior season was canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak.

In the summer of 2019, Scheve won the Kansas Junior Golf Association Tour Championship by three strokes after shooting a blazing first-round 64 (-8) and followed it up with a second-round 70 (-2) for a 134 (-10). He went on to claim the KJGA Match Play Championship by winning four consecutive matches. 

Scheve added a 10-stroke win in a Missouri Junior Golf Tour event to cap his junior amateur year in 2019 with a 71.3 scoring average. 

Scheve closed 2019 ranked No. 42 nationally in the Golfweek rankings and No. 103 in the Junior Golf Scoreboard rankings.  

He owns the course record at the Emporia Country Club with a 63 (-8).  

Personal
The son of Francis and Lisa Scheve, Gentry was born April 11, 2002, in Topeka, Kan. Gentry has a sister, Alaina. He is the cousin of former Husker javelin thrower Austin Bramen. A child, youth and family studies major, Scheve was an Academic All-Big Ten selection in 2022. He is a three-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll member.
