Outlook
Bronsen Schliep (pronounced Shleep) nearly doubled his career playing time last season and hopes to see more action in the Huskers' second rotation in 2005-06. Schliep's intelligent play and dedication to improving his all-around game have helped him gain valuable playing time over the past three seasons.

Behind a tremendous work ethic in the weight room, Schliep has become one of the Huskers' strongest players as he owns the men's basketball team record in the bench press at 300 pounds.

A walk-on, Schliep attends Nebraska on academic scholarships. He was accepted to the University of Nebraska Dental School but has postponed his enrollment to finish his final season on the court.

2004-05 (Junior)
Schliep continued to show solid improvement in his all-around game as he found the most playing time of his career as a junior. One of three walk-ons for the Huskers, Schliep played in 22 games, just one less than his career total entering the season, and saw 134 minutes of action, an average of 6.1 minutes per game. Schliep had played in a combined 79 minutes over his first two seasons.

Schliep's offensive numbers included 1.7 points and 1.2 boards per game while hitting 50.0 percent (12-of-24) from the floor. In the season opener, Schliep played 14 minutes while adding a career-high tying six points and a career-best five boards against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. He added at least three boards four more times and tied his career high with six points against North Carolina A&T.

Late in the season, Schliep proved to be a valuable defensive replacement with his hustle and energy helping Nebraska post solid wins over Iowa State on the road and Colorado in Lincoln. Schliep played the most minutes of his career against a league foe when he entered the ISU contest for nine minutes when the Huskers were in foul trouble. He recorded one rebound and one steal against the Cyclones.

Schliep made his biggest play of the season in the Big 12 Tournament against Missouri. With the Huskers down by three points with less than 40 seconds remaining in the game, Schliep's defense on Linas Kleiza was stellar, as he reached around and stole the ball to set up Nebraska's last chance at a game-tying 3-pointer.

In the classroom, Schliep remained perfect for his career as he continued his run with a 4.0 grade-point average for the seventh and eighth consecutive semesters. Schliep was one of five Huskers throughout the Nebraska Athletic Department to carry a cumulative 4.0 GPA. He was also a first-team academic All-Big 12 selection, one of five Huskers honored by the league office. He was a two-time Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll selection and twice named to the Dean's List.

2003-04 (Sophomore)
Schliep made outstanding improvements from his redshirt freshman season when he was named the team's most-improved player. He finished the year averaging 1.6 points and 0.8 rebounds in 5.1 minutes per contest and added four assists over 12 games.

Schliep's improvements were seen early on, as he earned his first career start in the Huskers' second game of the season against Eastern Michigan. He easily set career highs in nearly every category including 23 minutes played ? more time than he had in 11 contests combined the previous year. He went 2-for-2 from the floor against the Eagles with two assists.

Against South Florida, Schliep continued his strong early season play by hitting 3-of-6 field-goal attempts with two rebounds ? both on the offensive end ? in eight minutes. His six points versus the Bulls were a career high.

Schliep ended the non-conference slate on a high note against St. Francis (Pa.). He earned six minutes of court time and came away with four points on 2-for-2 shooting while adding a season-high four rebounds.

In Big 12 action, Schliep picked up his first points against Baylor when he went 2-for-2 at the free throw line while adding a rebound and assist in four minutes. He scored his only other point in league play during an upset of No. 25 Texas Tech, when he went 1-for-2 at the charity stripe.

Away from the arena, Schliep continued his dominance in the classroom where he recorded his fifth and sixth consecutive semesters with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. Schliep, who was a two-time Dean's List honoree, also earned a place on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, an award he has garnered after every semester at Nebraska.

2002-03 (Redshirt Freshman)
Schliep worked his way into 11 games, where he averaged just 0.2 points and 0.3 rebounds. He scored his only points of the season while playing a season-high nine minutes on the road against Kansas. Schliep hit 1-of-2 field-goal attempts against the Jayhawks while picking up one of his three rebounds (also against Centenary and Texas Tech) on the year.

Despite the relatively few minutes he saw on the court, Schliep made an impression on his teammates, as he received the team's Most Improved Award by a vote of his peers at the annual NU basketball awards banquet. Schliep also was named the men's basketball Lifter of the Year for his work in the weight room.

Off the court, Schliep was named to the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll for Fall 2002 and Spring 2003. He continued his excellence in the classroom by being named to the Dean's List twice, making it four consecutive semesters with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.

2001-02 (Freshman)
Schliep walked on and practiced with NU but redshirted during the season. In the classroom, he was named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll for Fall 2001 and Spring 2002, while also being named to the Dean’s List twice.

High School
Schliep played basketball for Coach Alan Ehlers and Coach Dave Barrett at Sandy Creek High School, where he lettered three times. As a senior, Schliep averaged 21 points and seven rebounds per game while adding three assists per contest. He earned first-team all-state honors and was named the Tribland player of the year. He also earned all-county and all-league first-team honors. Schliep had a career-high 35 points in a game, with 28 in the second half.

Also a standout on the track, Schliep qualified for the state meet in the high jump, long jump and triple jump as a senior. He placed third in the high jump and had a personal-best leap of 6-7 as a senior.

Schliep was the valedictorian of his high school senior class, graduating with a 4.0 grade-point average. He was also a National Honor Society member and a finalist for the Wendy’s High School Heisman in Nebraska.
