Brennon Clemmons is a quick, aggressive guard who returns after seeing extensive playing time at point guard in his first season with the Huskers.  Clemmons, a tough-minded player, has proven his ability to run the floor while being able to slash to the basket and draw fouls. 

 

Clemmons, the only fulltime senior on the squad, provides good pressure on the defensive end of the court for the Huskers, and ranked among the top five in the conference in steals last year. He is also a solid rebounder, as he was second on the team in rebounding average and ranked among the top 15 rebounding guards in the nation last season.

 

2001-02  (Junior)
Clemmons came on strong from the start of the season, as he recorded 16 points and eight rebounds off the bench in his Husker debut. On the year, Clemmons went on to average 8.8 points and 5.0 rebounds, while adding 2.7 assists and 1.7 steals per game.

 

His ability to drive to the basket helped him get to the free-throw line a team-high 106 times, where he made 73 (68.9 percent). Clemmons also proved his worth on the glass, as he finished the regular season second on the team with 5.0 rebounds per game and ranked among the nations? top 15 rebounding guards (6-2 and under).

 

Clemmons was one of just two Huskers to record a double-double during the year, reaching the mark on a team-high two occasions, including 19 points and 10 rebounds vs. Sam Houston State and 18 points and 10 rebounds vs. Iowa State. He led the team in scoring three times and rebounding seven times, while pacing the squad in assists nine times. Clemmons, who reached double-figure points in 11 contests, had at least four assists in nine games and at least three steals eight times.

 

Clemmons provided solid all-around efforts in many games, including against SavannahState when he had nine points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals. He added 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals in a victory over No. 20/23 Texas Tech despite leaving the game against the Red Raiders with a cut over his left eye after a collision with TTU's Andre Emmett. Clemmons received seven stitches (Emmett had three stitches on his forehead), but both eventually returned to the contest.

 

Clemmons recorded a career-high 23 points in 29 minutes of action on the road at Texas A&M. His scoring outburst helped the Huskers to their only road victory of the regular season. Clemmons hit 7-of-12 attempts from the floor and 8-of-9 attempts from the charity stripe vs. the Aggies, as he continually drove the lane and forced fouls. He added six rebounds and three steals in the victory.

 

In the Big 12 rankings, Clemmons finished fourth in the league for steals in all games, and was fifth in steals in conference-only games. Clemmons also provided better long-range shooting in the Big 12 season, as he hit .400 percent (14-of-35) from behind the arc in conference play.

 

Junior College (Olney Central (Ill.) CC)

Clemmons played two seasons at Olney Central (Ill.) Community College, where he was the starting point guard. Clemmons led the team to an 18-12 record as a sophomore. Olney Central also collected its first Great Rivers Athletic Association title in 18 years, as Clemmons helped the team to a 23-8 mark as a freshman.

 

Following his sophomore season, Clemmons was tabbed an honorable-mention NJCAA All-American while earning All-Region XXIV accolades as well.  Olney Central nearly made the national JUCO tournament, losing by one point to eventual national champion WabashCommunity College in the region XXIV title game.  He added 14 points and five rebounds per contest for Coach Jim Glash.

 

During his freshman campaign, Clemmons averaged 10.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. He also added 3.1 steals per contest while hitting 44 percent from the field, including 34 percent (21-of-61) from three-point range. For his efforts, Clemmons was named to the all-conference team.

 

High School

Clemmons was a top prep performer at Northwest (Ind.) High School under head coach Otis Curry. He averaged 13 points, 11 rebounds and five steals per game as a senior, when he earned all-league and all-city honors. He earned both honors following his junior campaign as well. 

 

Clemmons also competed in football during his prep days. On the gridiron, he earned all-state honors as a defensive back.

 

 

Personal

Brennon is the son of Karen and Forrest Clemmons Sr. He has two brothers, Wesley and Forrest Jr. Brennon was born on Jan. 3, 1981,  and is majoring in sociology at Nebraska.
