Steve Damkroger

1982 (Senior)
Damkroger closed his career as Nebraska's all-time leader in assisted tackles with 157 and fourth in total tackles with 269.  He led NU for the second straight year in tackles with 79 stops on the year.  His best game as a senior was against Colorado when he made seven tackles and set up a pair of Husker TDs with the only two TDs of his career.  He also matched his career-high of 13 tackles against Missouri. 

1981 (Junior)
Damkroger led the Huskers in tackles with 116 and was named a second-team All-Big Eight performer.  He led a Blackshirt defense that ranked first in the nation in pass defense (100.1 yards per game), and led the Big Eight in every defensive category.  Damkroger averaged 10.5 tackles per game, with a 13-tackle performance against Florida State his top tackle day of the season.  He led all tacklers with 11 stops including nine solo tackles in the 1982 Orange Bowl vs. Clemson. 

1980 (Sophomore)
Damkroger moved into the starting lineup at strongside linebacker and had 17 tackles (8 solo) against Oklahoma.  On the year, Damkroger finished with 58 tackles, including 37 unassisted stops. 

1979 (Redshirt Freshman)
With 16 tackles and a pair of tackles for loss, Damkroger made a solid first impression on the varsity squad and played enough to letter as a freshman.

1978 (Freshman)
Damkroger redshirted. 

At Lincoln Northeast HS
Damkroger earned all-city, all-state and All-American honors for Coach Bob Els at Lincoln Northeast High School.

Personal
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Damkroger, Steve was born Jan. 25, 1960.  Both his father Ralph, a standout end in the 1940s, and his brother Maury, a fullback on the championship teams in the 1970s, played football at Nebraska.
