Career
Tyler Legate played a significant role in the Nebraska offense at fullback in his final three seasons, and he made his greatest impact as a senior in 2011. The Neligh, Neb., native continued to be a key lead blocker for the Huskers in 2011, while providing a receiving threat out of the backfield. As a senior, Legate has also had rushing opportunities, the first time the Nebraska fullback has run the football since 2004.

Legate was placed on scholarship before the start of the season, and played in all 13 games with six starts in 2011. He helped Nebraska rank in the top 15 nationally in rushing offense, while catching a pair of touchdown passes, giving him four receiving touchdowns in seven career receptions.

Legate also picked up academic All-Big Ten honors for his work in the classroom, marking the third time he has been an academic all-conference selection. An education major, he graduated in May of 2012.

2011 (Senior)
Legate had eight rushes for 54 yards in 2011, after not carrying the ball coming into the year. Legate had single carries in six games, and had two totes for 37 yards against Washington. In that game, Legate had a 36-yard run, the longest by a Nebraska fullback in seven seasons. Legate also caught four passes for 21 yards, with a three-yard touchdown reception against Washington and a 10-yard touchdown catch at Minnesota.

2010 (Junior)
Legate continued to play a key role in the offense as a junior, as his lead blocking contributed to one of the nation's top rushing offenses. Legate played in 13 games with six starts, and he helped Nebraska top 200 rushing yards in 10 games. NU finished the year tops in the Big 12 and ninth nationally in rushing offense.

Legate did not carry the football, but made the most of his only reception with a one-yard touchdown catch in the Huskers' 51-41 win at Oklahoma State.

2009 (Sophomore)
Legate used a strong effort during spring practice to earn a role in the Nebraska offense. He played in all 14 games with four starts. He was primarily used as a lead blocker for the Husker I-backs, but Legate also caught three passes for 27 yards and one touchdown. Legate scored the first touchdown of his career against Arkansas State, hauling in a three-yard pass from quarterback Zac Lee.

2008 (Redshirt)
Legate redshirted at Nebraska in 2008 and worked on the scout team. He began his career at South Dakota in 2007 before transferring to Nebraska.

Before Nebraska (Neligh-Oakdale HS/South Dakota)
Legate sat out the 2007 season as a redshirt at South Dakota. Legate earned four letters each in football, track and wrestling during a standout prep career at Neligh-Oakdale High School. He helped his team to an 8-3 record and a state quarterfinal appearance in his senior season. Legate made 139 tackles on defense and led Class C-2 with 2,051 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns. He was the honorary captain of the Class C-2 all-state team by the Omaha World-Herald and was a three-time all-district pick.

Legate qualified for the state wrestling meet three times, capped by a state title at 189 pounds his senior season. He also helped Neligh-Oakdale's 4x400 relay team to a seventh-place finish at state as a senior.

Personal
Tyler is the son of Roger and Rosemary Legate and was born on March 7, 1989. An education major, Legate earned his bachelor's degree from Nebraska in May of 2012. He was an academic All-Big Ten selection in 2011, after earning first-team academic All-Big 12 accolades as a junior in 2010. He was a second-team academic All-Big 12 choice in 2009 and a five-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll. Legate was named to the Brook Berringer Citizenship Team in both 2011 and 2012 for his outreach work, which included School is Cool Week, Special Olympics, and hospital and school visits. Tyler's cousin, Billy, played fullback and was a special teams standout for Nebraska, lettering four seasons from 1995 to 1998.
