2010 Outlook
Joseph Camarata will enter fall camp as a reserve linebacker who hopes to push for playing time in 2010. The 5-10, 225-pound Camarata also will bid for a role on Nebraska's special teams units. Camarata originally joined the Husker football program in January of 2008 as a walk-on and earned his way onto the team during winter conditioning. He spent the 2007 fall semester at Baylor, but was not a member of the football team.
Camarata is a standout in the classroom, carrying a 3.61 cumulative grade-point average. He is a five-time Big 12 Commissioner's Academic Honor roll selection.
2009 (Redshirt Freshman)
Camarata was a reserve linebacker, but did not see game action.
2008 (Redshirt)
Camarata redshirted in his first season and worked on the scout team defense.
Before Nebraska (Rockhurst HS)
Camarata was an outstanding two-way player for Rockhurst High School and Coach Anthony Severino, playing center and middle linebacker. Camarata earned first-team Class 6A all-state honors as an offensive lineman by the Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association. He also earned Kansas City Area all-district honors during his senior year. During his junior season, Camarata helped Rockhurst High School to a state semifinal appearance.
Camarata was a member of the National Honor Society and earned a Greater Kansas City Football Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete Award in 2006. He compiled better than a 4.0 grade-point average in high school. Camarata began high school at Lincoln Southeast, where he started both ways as a sophomore before his family moved to the Kansas City area.
Personal
Camarata is the son of Joe and Colleen Camarata and was born on April 25, 1989. He is majoring in nutrition, exercise and health science. He has volunteered his time as part of team hospital visits and numerous elementary school outreach events.
