1988 (Senior)
Wendell Wooten (pronounced wen-DELL) was a two-time letterman for Nebraska, earning his first letter as a quarterback in 1986, before closing his career with a letter as a safety in 1988. He helped Nebraska capture the Big Eight Conference title with an unbeaten (7-0) regular season on its way to an 11-2 overall record that included a trip to the 1989 Orange Bowl against Miami. The Blackshirts finished sixth nationally in pass defense (134.8 ypg) and seventh in total defense (262.8 ypg).
1987 (Junior)
A non-lettered reserve, Wooten saw action in four games and made three tackles. He also provided a highlight with an interception and 29-yard return against Kansas. It was NU’s second-longest interception return of the season. He helped the Blackshirts rank sixth nationally in scoring defense (12.1 ppg), eighth in total defense (264.7 ypg) and ninth in rushing defense (107.0 ypg).
1986 (Sophomore)
Wooten earned his first varsity letter as a reserve quarterback in 1986. He then made a move to safety in the spring of 1987.
1985 (Redshirt)
Wooten redshirted in his second season at Nebraska.
1984 (Freshman)
The starting quarterback on Nebraska’s 4-1 freshman team in 1984, Wooten rushed for 167 yards and a team-leading six touchdowns. He also completed 16-of-47 passes for 198 yards. He did not throw a TD pass, but he did have five interceptions.
La Marque High School
Wooten was a standout quarterback for Coach Hugh Massey at La Marque High School in West Texas City, Texas.

The son of Charles and Shirley White, Wendell earned his bachelor’s degree as a business administration major at Nebraska.
