1990 (Senior)
A three-year letterwinner at defensive tackle for the Huskers, Paul Brungardt played just six games as a senior for the Blackshirts while battling injury. The 6-7, 260-pounder managed two tackles, including a solo. He added two tackles including one unassisted stop against Georgia Tech in the Florida Citrus Bowl. He helped the Blackshirts rank seventh nationally in scoring defense (13.4 ppg) and total defense (263.5 ypg).

In four seasons of varsity action, Brungardt total 27 tackles (17 solos) in 32 games. He notched six TFLs (24 yards), including four sacks (19 yards), while adding five QB hurries and one fumble recovery.

1989 (Junior)
Brungardt played in 10 of 11 regular-season games plus the Sunkist Fiesta Bowl against Florida State. As the No. 3 defensive left tackle behind Joe Sims and Ray Valladao, Brungardt totaled eight tackles, including three sacks for 12 yards lost. He also had four quarterback hurries, which all came against Kansas State. Brungardt added a fumble recovery against Oklahoma State. He recorded one assisted tackle against FSU in the Fiesta Bowl. As a team, Nebraska ranked eighth nationally in total defense (274.1 ypg) on the season.

1988 (Sophomore)
Brungardt earned his first varsity letter while helping Nebraska to the Big Eight championship. He played in every game, including starts in the first seven games of the season for the Big Red. He finished the regular season with 17 total tackles, including 11 solos. He registered three TFLs (12 yards). Brungardt recorded a season-high six tackles (all solos) against UCLA.

1987 (Redshirt Freshman)
Brungardt played in four varsity games but did not record any stats. He also saw action on Coach Shane Thorell’s JV team, posting 10 tackles, including four for a team-leading 29 yards in losses. Two of his TFLs were sacks that went for 21 yards lost.

1986 (Redshirt)
Brungardt redshirted in his first season at Nebraska after suffering a broken foot during basketball season as a senior at Battle Creek High School.

Battle Creek High School
An all-class, all-state offensive tackle for Coach Bob Schnitzler at Battle Creek, Brungardt also recorded 71 tackles as a defensive end. He was the fourth Battle Creek product to play for the Big Red in recent years, joining Robb and Craig Schnitzler and Wade Praeuner.

Personal
The son of Paul Sr. and Marg Brungardt, Paul was born in Denver, Colo. He is a cousin of former Husker fullback Tim Brungardt. Paul was a civil engineering major at Nebraska. His father was inducted into the Nebraska High School Hall of Fame in 2007, after a long and successful career as a basketball coach that included state championships at Humphrey St. Francis in 1990, 1992 and 1994.
