1983 (Senior)
Brungardt backed up Mark Schellen and Tom Rathman at fullback as a member of the travel squad his senior year. His biggest play of the season came against Oklahoma when he snagged an eight-yard shovel pass from QB Turner Gill on a fake field goal attempt to give the Huskers a first down at the OU 7-yard line and set up the game's first touchdown. Brungardt won the inaugural Sowers Award his senior season, given to the team's top senior reserve. On the season, Brungardt rushed the ball 18 times for 65 yards and 1 touchdown.
1982 (Junior)
Brungardt's Junior season was his best statistical season of his career rushing the ball 25 times for 165 yards, for an average of 6.4 yards per carry, and 3 touchdowns. The best day of his career came against New Mexico State when he rushed for 65 yards.
1981 (Sophomore)
Brungardt earned his first letter for the Huskers his sophomore season, his first season in the offensive backfield. Brungardt had the most rushing attempts of his career as a sophomore with 29. He gained 155 yards on the ground for an average of 3.5 per carry.
1980 (Redshirt Freshman)
Brungardt redshirted at the monster position in 1980.
1979 (Freshman)
Brungardt walked on in 1979 as a freshman. He played for the freshman team at both I-back and monster.
At Norfolk Catholic HS
As a senior at Norfolk Catholic High School, Brungardt earned all-state honors for football.

Brungardt was born Sept. 8, 1961, and is the son of Gerard and Kay Brungardt.
