Senior (1978)
Clark was the Huskers consensus All-American performer as selected by the Football Writers of America, AP, Kodak, Football News, and Walter Camp. Clark has been a standout performer for the Huskers over the past three years, Coach Tom Osborne call him “possibly the best offensive lineman ever to play at Nebraska”. Was named to the All-Big 8 team by the AP and UPI. Played in the Hula Bowl and the Challenge Bowl in Seattle.
Clark and the rest of the offensive line led the Huskers to the No. 1 ranking in total offense (501.4 yards per game) and No. 2 ranking in both rushing offense (337.7 yards per game) and scoring offense (38.2 points per game) in '78. Clark blocked for Honorable Mention All-American running backs Rick Berns (1,032 yards) and I.M. Hipp (1,002 yards). Nebraska’s single game high for yards in a game with 799 yards (516 rushing and 282 passing) against Kansas on Nov. 4th was also a national record for 1978.

Clark earned AP Honorable Mention All-American status and AP second-team All-Big 8. Clark was voted NU Weightlifter of the Year in ’78. Helped the Huskers rush for 294.5 yards per game and blocked for second-team All-American running back I.M. Hipp (1353 yards and 10 TD’s)

Majored in Physical Education and was nicknamed Melvin and Big Neck. Son of Mr. and Mrs. C. K. Clark, brother David played defensive tackle for the Huskers. Clark was born on Jan. 30, 1956.
