At Nebraska

Began his career at Nebraska as a fullback, but during his freshman year moved to tackle.


During the 1951 campaign, Minnick’s sophomore year, Minnick’s tremendous tackle play helped change the balance of power in the IowaState game and powered the Huskers to a victory. The Huskers held opponents to only 1,367 yards in the air and recovered 15 fumbles.


As a junior Minnick earned First-Team All-America honors from International News Service and repeated as a letterman. Behind Minnick the Husker defense only allowed 1,432 yards on the ground. The Huskers also increased their fumble recoveries to 17, two more then the previous year.


As a senior Minnick was picked as a co-captain and powered the Huskers to a second place finish is the Big Seven Conference. The powerful Husker pass rush held opponents to only 82.1 yards per game in the air and the Husker recovered an outstanding 26 fumbles.


Inducted into the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame in 1981
